    • Professional Experience

        Dr Markus Pakleppa is a lecturer in Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Markus was awarded BSc and MSc degrees in Medical Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences Gelsenkirchen, Germany. He joined the University of Dundee in 2011 for the PhD programme in Mechanical Engineering. In 2016 he was appointed as a lecturer in the School of Science and Engineering where he is now leading the undergraduate programme in Biomedical Engineering. Markus is teaching subjects related to Engineering Materials, Mechanics and Medical Instruments.

    • Research Specialization

      Markus' main research interests are concerned with the development of medical phantoms and medical devices. His research covers the characterisation of tissue mimicking materials as well as the fabrication of organ phantoms. As part of this he is working on the development of anatomical test environments for surgical technology. He furthermore works on the development of affordable prosthetics for amputees in developing countries. This work is in particular investigating the application of variable stiffness joints in prosthetic limbs.
