Professor Karen Petrie is the Associate Dean for Academic Culture and Performance in the School of Science and Engineering.
I interweave my research interests in Constraint Programming with pedagogic research work. From August 2009 until the end of 2011, I was a Dorothy Hodgkin Royal Society Research Fellow in the School of Computing at the University of Dundee. My research project was entitled “Constraint Programming as a tool to solve Computational Group Theory Problems”. This embodies my main research goal which is to conduct interdisciplinary research applying techniques from Artificial Intelligence to other scientific disciplines. I started this research by looking at group theory and constraint programming. I was invited to give a guest talk on the area to RWTH Aachen University, Germany at the end of last year and I am currently working on new techniques in this area jointly with the University of St Andrews. We submitted one paper to the internationally leading CP conference earlier this year (which is under review) and are working on new results to be submitted to the equally highly regarded AAAI conference in September.
